LESSON 10

DEMONSTRATION IN TEACHING

SUMMARY:

Demonstration is showing how a thing is done and emphasizing of the salient merits, utility and efficiency of a concept, a method or a process or an attitude. It is a dramatic performance.
Demonstration makes us to be a good communication. In demonstration, the speaker should show the product and show them how to use it, tells all important things about the products in order to convince the audience that the product is a worth buying.
In teaching demonstration, teacher should show to the learners the teaching strategy effectively. They should speak clearly.
Before the demonstration the speaker should plan and prepare adequately,we should determine first our goals, the materials we need, our steps and rehearse. In the actual demonstration we see to it that the learners get and sustain the interest, focused clear is one important in demonstration. Make it sure that the learners cannot feel bored, so have a motivation to arouse them, to make them interested.

REFLECTION;

All of us will experience this demonstration as a future teacher. So we should follow the teaching strategy to make our demonstration successful. Let us plan and be prepared for the demonstration.Don't let your feelings affect you.

lesson 9

Teaching with dramatized experiences

SUMMARY:

Dramatic is something that is stirring or affecting or moving. It holds the audience attention and

we can feel emotion. So, if our teaching is dramatized the learners can relate, get attracted and

interested. They can easily understand.

Dramatized experience can range from the formal plays, pageants to less formal tableau,

pantomime, puppets, and role playing.

  •  In plays depict life, they offer excellent opportunities to portray vividly important ideas about life.
  • Pageants are usually community dreams that are based on local history, it presented by local actors.
  •  Pantomime and tableau are less demanding in terms of labor, time, and preparations. These are purely visual experience. So, when we say pantomime it is the art of conveying a story through bodily movements only
  • tableau is a picture like scene composed of people against a background.
  •  Puppets is use as an instructional device, the show can involves the entire group of students.
  • role playing is an unrehearsed, unprepared and spontaneous dramatization of a "let's pretend" situation where assigned participants are absorbed by their own roles in the situation described by the teacher.

Shadow puppets- flat back silhouette made from lightweight cardboard and shown behind a
                     screen
Rod puppets- flat cut out figure tacked to a stick, with one or more movable parts, and                                                                                            operated from below the stage level by wire rods or slender stick
*Hand puppets- the puppet's head is operated by the forefinger of the puppeteer, the little finger d thumb being used to animate the puppet hand
*Glove and finger puppets- make use of old gloves to small costumed figure are attached
*Marionettes- flexible, jointed puppets operated by strings or wires attached to across bar and    maneuvered from directly above the stage

REFLECTION:

through that dramatized experience we can relate, we can understand and it is interested to look and listen. Dramatized experience cater to students multiple intelligence.

lesson 8

CONTRIVE EXPERIENCES

  • What are contrived experiences?
  •    These are edited copies of reality and are used a substitutes for real things when it is not practical or not possible to bring or do the real think in the classroom. These contrived experiences are designed to simulate to real-life situations. The atoms, planetarium, globe, the simulated election process and preserve specimen are examples of contrived experiences
  •  Types of Contrived experiences
  •  Models, and Mock –up – atom, planetarium are reproductions of real thing in a small or large scale which may not be operational.
  • Specimen & Objects – is any individual or item considered typical or a group. Object may include artifacts displayed in a museum or objects displayed in exhibit.
  • Simulation – is a “representation” of a manageable real event in which the learner is an active participant engaged in learning a behavior or in applying previously acquired skills or knowledge.
  • Games – are use for any of these purposes: To practice and/or refine knowledge/skills already acquired, To identify gaps or weaknesses in knowledge or skills To serve as a summation or review and. To develop new relationships among concepts and principles.

REFLECTION:

Contrived experiences are substitute of real things if it is impossible for a teacher to bring the object in the class. Thus technique suggest that a teacher should be creative enough to innovate or modified what he she have to present her lesson very well.

LESSON 7

DIRECT PURPOSEFUL EXPERIENCES AND BEYOND

SUMMARY:

This is a concrete and first hand experiences that make up the foundation of our learning.A

rich experiences that our senses bring from which we construct the ideas, the concepts, the

generalizations that give meaning and order.

The opposite of this is the indirect or vicarious experiences, these are the experiences of

other people.

we can acquire these through reading, observing or just by listening from others.

Direct purposeful experience is important because:

  • the experiences are not purely mechanical
  • experiences that are internalized in the sense that these experiences involved the asking of questions that have significance in the life of the person undergoing the direct experiences
  • the experiences are undergone in the relation to a purpose. e.i., learning
Direct, Purposeful Experiences and Beyond implies that these direct experiences not be the period or the end. We must be brought to the higher plane or the level of generalization and abstraction.

REFLECTION:

direct experiences lead us to concept formation and abstraction. We should not end our lessons knowing only concrete. we should go beyond what is in the books, TV & internet , and let our students learn through their senses.

USING AND EVALUATING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

SUMMARY:

To ensure that instructional materials serve their purpose in instruction, we need to observe some guidelines in their selection and use. The materials that we select must:
v  Give a true picture of ideas they present
v  Contribute to the attainment of the learning objective
v  Be appropriate to the age, intelligence and experience of the learners
v  Be in good and satisfactory condition
     v  Provide for a teacher’s guide
v  Help to develop the critical and creative thinking powers of students
v  Be worth the time, expense and effort involved
For optimum use of the instructional material, it is necessary that the teacher prepares:
      v  Herself
      v  Her students
      v  The instructional material
      v  And thus, follow up

  REFLECTION:

Teachers should know what and how to use instructional media appropriately because in her hands lies the future of her students.and the very important of all teacher should prepare herself or should master her lesson because no matter what kind of instructional material she use, no matter how superior it is, it can never replace the teacher.
